Glacial Granite

Unquarried West Country granite that typically has experienced 30,000 years of exposure to the elements. As a result, stones tends to be weathered, beautifully rounded with no sharp edges. It is often covered with mosses and lichen.

The surface has plenty of grip. For holed stones, the hole is dolly pointed by hand to remove slip. Edges are rounded off to remove sharp areas.

Artistic designs and lettering can be carved straight onto the undressed surface of the granite. The weathered look of glacial granite is also well-suited to Japanese gardens.
